The Kate Sharpley Library is named in honour of an anarchist militant who was involved in the anti-war struggle of 1914-1918. The Library has been very busy recently and hopefully this press release will help inform you what’s going on.
The Library exists as an archival centre covering the broad class struggle anarchist tradition and hopefully in the near future we will be able to allow access to the mass of documentation available. The library is made up several thousand pamphlets, books, newspapers, journals, posters, unpublished manuscript[s] etc, in over twenty languages. We have a large collection of international anarcho-sydicalist material and also sizeable collection of libertarian socialist and council communist material which we are keen to extend. This however only briefly indicates what is contained within the archive[.] We are interested in trial documentation and lastly we are very short of videos, although we know many relevant videos have and do exist. Please send any documentation etc or suggestions for future publications to the K.S.L. The K.S.L. has as a comprehensive publications programme. To date we have published six pamphlets (listed below) and we hope to publish at least some the following in the next three months.
THE UNSUNG STRUGGLE (NO 2) - THE SPANISH RESISTANCE 1939-51; JOHN CREAGHE OF SHEFFIELD AND BUENOS AIRES; RACE AND CLASS BY BRIXTON DAM; THE SYNDICALIST HORSE TRANSPORT UNION OF EAST LONDON; MAKHNO’S VISIT TO THE KREMLIN.
The KSL exists to collate, research and publicise the history of our movement which has been distorted in the past. We think what we are doing is neccessary. We hope you do too. Help support the KSL. It is sometimes said that if you don’t learn from history you repeat the same mistakes. But it is also true that if you are taught your own history by outside influences you are doomed to make the mistakes thay want you too [to].
All our pamphlets are inexpensive and quickly produced. In operating this way we hope to bring out up to 20 pamphlets by April 1993. We do need your help though. To enhance the collection we appeal to all anarchist groups/organisations and publications to add our name to their mailing lists. We ask all comrades and friends to donate all suitable material to the library. Please buy / sell / donate (including money) to the K.S.L. and publicise the pamphlets we have for sale. If you would like to take bulk orders please contact us directly.
