David Porter

With great sadness we have to announce the death of David Porter who died on December 29 aged 79. Like Osvaldo Bayer, David was a fine man and a fine historian. His book Vision On Fire (2006 new edi­tion) collected Emma Goldman’s letters on the Span­ish Revolution and through them highlighted some compelling arguments about it, while his Eyes On The South (2011) offers a brilliantly nuanced under­standing of French anarchist responses to the struggle of Algerian independence. You can get them both through AK Press. He was the author of several other works also. We keep saying this, but losing people of his calibre is hard. We offer solidarity to his family and friends.
