Unknown Heroes: biographies of anarchist resistance fighters by Miguel Garcia [Review]

Every great collective is made up of individuals and, unfortunately but inevitably, the great majority are forgotten when the history of working class organisations is written. Few individual protagonists of the CNT are remembered today, even in Spain. The names of Buenaventura Durruti, Federica Montseny, Cipriano Mera, Joan Peiró, Ricardo Sanz and a few others live on but most are forgotten. Miguel García is a name that is remembered largely because of his own memoirs, Franco’s Prisoner, and now, in this posthumous publication, with characteristic generosity, he pays tribute to many of the unsung heroes of Spanish anarchism. This pamphlet will become an essential reference for historians. It also makes for a fascinating read.
